Maintaining & testing safety cabinets
There is a statutory requirement to carry out testing and validation of microbiological safety cabinets. Testing must be carried out to the regulatory standard BS EN12469 and includes testing the operation of airflow indicators & alarms, checking HEPA filter integrity, airflow velocity, visualization and KI-Discus (aperture protection factor) tests.
A KI-Discus test can also be carried out to determine the standards of operator protection and risk levels for potential cross contamination for Class I and Class II open-fronted microbiological safety cabinets and laboratory fume cupboards. Conducting regular safety cabinet testing ensures ongoing levels of protection and, alongside properly scheduled maintenance (ideally carried out alongside testing), can prevent breakdowns, minimising the risk of facility downtime.
What is involved?
- Commissioning, service and testing in accordance with BS EN12469
- HEPA filter supply, installation and certification/integrity testing
- Testing the operation of airflow
- Testing the airflow indicators & alarms
- Testing airflow velocity
- Visualisation testing
- KI-Discus (aperture protection factor) tests
