Is Occupational Hygiene Testing required?
Occupational hygiene testing helps prevent ill health in the workplace. Depending on the nature of the workplace environment testing may be required by COSHH assessments or merely be advisable due to other factors. For example, an odour investigation of a new unpleasant smell within the workplace environment.
What is involved?
Our hygienist will provide services for the recognition and evaluation of hazardous agents and activities, as well as guidance on their control. Commonly this could include one or many hazards:
- Chemical hazards: Mists, vapours, fumes
- Physical agents: including noise, vibration, non-ionising radiation, thermal environment
- Biological hazards/Biological agents
- Ergonomic hazards: Tasks involving repetitive actions, use of display screen equipment
Our services include:
- Monitoring for nitrous oxide and anaesthetic agents in operating theatre suites/recovery areas and workplace/personnel areas

Monitoring firing ranges (civil & military) – full IAQ and risk assessments with pollutant monitoring
- Dust, fume, gas and vapour monitoring
- Indoor pollutant monitoring, including total volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
- Odour investigations (“building smells”)
