Airflow Commissioning & Balancing

We provide this service predominately to our existing customers, where we have already completed a HTM 03 01 verification or airflow performance measurements. It is an added value service using our ventilation commissioning engineers to assist customers with improving existing airflows to meet original design, guidance compliance (HTM 03-01) or specified user needs.

When is Airflow re-commissioning/balancing required?

We recommend commissioning when a HVAC system has lost performance or is not operating optimally. The testing, adjustment and balancing process that forms a commissioning service should be carried out by trained consultants; able to evaluate the HVAC systems interaction with other elements within the building.

Annual verifications often identify the need to have systems re-commissioned to ensure compliant airflows are being achieved. If airflows are out of balance across a theatre or cleanroom suite, we can help to correct this, ensuring safe airflows are being achieved as well as improving your compliance with HTM guidance and/or the original design requirements.

What is involved?

We rebalance and recommission in order to achieve final airflows which are as close as possible to the original design, compliance guidance, or client specified requirements. Our service includes:

  • Measurements of volumes/pressures on commencement and completion
  • Adjustment of accessible installed control devices to establish adequate airflow and pressure profiles to meet the design, where possible.
  • Re-verification of performance
  • Provision of a full report detailing air change rates, differential pressures, traverse and terminal readings, with a summary of actions taken and any further recommendations.

We work with the site’s BMS engineer to ensure any fan speed or invertor adjustments can be made and new set points established. In addition, we can offer more extensive services if required. These can include:

  • AHU/plant/fan performance assessments
  • Replacing belts and pulleys
  • The installation of new VCDs
  • Access door installation
  • Fan, motor, invertor, belt/pulley performance upgrades.

Benefits of using AirisQ for your Airflow commissioning & balancing

Compliance

ensuring the necessary standards are met by making physical adjustments and producing improved airflow performance.

Identifying faults

allows issues to be identified quickly and rectified efficiently. Implementing measures to improve airflow performance and balance airflow distribution.

Energy savings and environmental comfort

reduce complaints of hot and cold drafts reaching staff and patients, and subsequent energy savings.

Reduces infection risk

ensuring the correct clean airflow paths are maintained reduces the risk of contaminated air reaching vulnerable patients or staff.

How can AirisQ help with Airflow commissioning and balancing?

We have an experienced team of commissioning engineers who can provide this additional support service to existing customers. This will help clients to improve their ventilation system performance either for compliance or to restore the airflow back to the original design figures.
